Vicar - Rev. Peter Barham came to the parish in July 2016, and lives at the Vicarage, King’s Croft, Allestree, Derby, DE22 2FN. You can contact him on 01332 551404 or revpeterbarham@here.. Ordained in 1994 he served as a Curate in Fornham All Saints and six other villages north of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, then was Vicar of Cockfield and three other villages south of the town. In 2001 he moved to St Edmundsbury Cathedral where he was Chaplain, then Canon Pastor. He moved to Ponteland in Northumberland in 2008 and served that town church (with a second village church at Milbourne) for almost eight years. Patrick Smith lives in Allestree and has been a member of St. Edmund's for about five years. He is a keen gardener and organise the yearly Open Gardens show.
Julie Barham trained as a Reader while Peter was at Theological College, and has served in the same parishes. Here she regularly preaches, takes All Age Worship and Evening Prayer, sings in the choir, and is involved in most church activities. She is a great reader, and writes a regular northernreader blog – you can read it here.
Deborah Simpson became a Reader in 1982 – at the time the youngest Reader in the diocese – initially in the parish of All Saints’, Mickleover. She transferred to St Edmund’s following her marriage in the church in 1992 and has been here ever since! Aside from church activities Deborah is heavily involved in the local am-dram scene and is chairman of Quarndon Amateur Dramatic Society, loves horses and equestrian events and is also an avid reader – mostly of crime fiction.
